Just a quick word of thanks. As some of you are aware, I stuffed young Missiles Christmas present into the ground on the far side of the fence next to the runway a week ago. .

The "Jumper" lived up to it's name and jumped the fence. It was taxied out, went through a full MAC check with no problems but had no control the instant it left the ground and performed a beautiful slow roll to the left before nosing straight in..

The post mortem showed the cause to be a crystal failure as everything was dead until a new crystal was tried and everything worked perfectly there after. . Those still on 35 mhz be warned.

So back to the thanks, Biggles, I needed those crystals quicker than I thought..

Notright for the jumper fuz now well on its way to being a smokey and no longer a leccy.

Snoopy for the trainer and engine to get him back in the sky ASAP.

Thanks guys, he's delighted..
it was zero hour and time to go ,started up the engine and turn into the wind and off with a major climb with plenty of down trim
to get the nose down after a short flight came into land on a steady approach and landed on a very slow speed ,amazing for such a big model ,taxi back and turned into the wind with a few changes on the radio ,off again into the wind and climb out nice and steady after a big roll and a couple of fast low level passes time to land came in nice and slow and landed on three wheels with no damage to the

Decided to head up to the field and test out the SpaceWalker today, got there about 12 (would've been earlier but I had to dig out all the IC accessories

Arrived to find Mongo, The Accountant, Recycler and Icelander as well as a few heli pilots. Apparently I'd missed our heli digger driver maiden a 3D chipmonk Recycler had photos of the wreckage though

I did get to set up the SpaceWalker and had a rather enjoyable flight, I'd been checking up on t'net, turns out the full size is stressed to +5g and -3g. Enough to loop and roll I reckon Unrotunately it also has a roll rate of 45deg/sec 8 seconds to roll That didn't stop me trying to tip Alfie out of his seat I think the sick bag was full when he landed

Mongo was wringing the neck of his Wot4 until he managed to touch the runway with extreme prejudice - how low can you go?? Not that low

Accountant was also flying his Wot4 - first time in 2 years apparently, needless to say he was showing a little more respect for the ground.

Rain stopped play for a while, luckily Alfie has a blue badge parking permit and was allowed to shelter in the cabin. A break in the rain saw the receiver from Mongo's NotWot recycled into his new Wonder, complete with J'EN 36 and tuned pipe, I got the dubious pleasure of finding out if it would fly IT'S BALLISTIC I reckon The Plasterer now has the second fastest small plane in the club 100ft loops - check, 3 rolls/second - check, just need to trim it out now Handed control to Mongo just before the rain started again

I'm not ready to switch back to IC, but I have to admit that the 91 four stroke really made the SpaceWalker, just a pity about all the extra luggage I need to carry.

Got a quarter scale spacewalker from Mongo, needing "a wee bit of tidying up"

Ideally I'd like to remove all the covering, recover in solartex and repaint (probably with an electric conversion thrown in for good measure However, the scale season approachith and this could be ideal for the "too windy for an Aircamper" days

First up was to remove the film that Mongo's low flying tools had punctured:

I also notice the bottom covering was a bit flappy so that went too:

 2012-04-20 13.39.37.jpg (Size: 153.93 KB / Downloads: 5)

Despite Mongo dropping everything in his van onto the fuselage there was only one piece of damage to the framework, patched in a piece of stringer and it was ready for covering:

 2012-04-20 13.47.35.jpg (Size: 128.99 KB / Downloads: 5)

With this being an oil burner the covering was somewhat slimey some washing up liquid was used to clean uo the areas that had to accept the new film. Unfortunately my iron is currently sitting in Snoopy's shed so I had to resort to plan B:

 2012-04-20 14.48.29.jpg (Size: 128.05 KB / Downloads: 4)

Works just fine (a little tricky in tight corners though), set the heat just below 2 and it worked a treat. A little matt black enamel paint was brushed on to bring back the colour scheme:

 2012-04-20 16.27.56.jpg (Size: 116.86 KB / Downloads: 4)

Finally I fitted my receiver and got Alfie settled back into his office:

As well as his unfortunate facial scarring he also appears to suffer severe air sickness - every time he flew on his last outing he always had his head between his legs by the time he landed. A little velcro on his jacket and the seat should make sure he watches where he's flying in future
It was hard work but well worth all the effort put in. The site is looking very impressive and we can now make the most of the changes made and enjoy a great years flying. There are only a few things to attend to and they will be sorted out before our summer fun fly. But again it wouldnt have been possible without the support and effort put in by all the guys this weekend, so once again Thank You all. It was worth the rolls on sausage or even the odd doubler , a lot less than minimum wage We even had a surprise visit from the atc who were very impressed by the changes and they even managed to see a couple of planes fly as well.
Turns out a good piece of the work has already been undertaken but I decided to check over the progress so far before continuing the build.

The wings had been joined and the wing bandage applied, alignment and dihedral look good, but there was one small error:
The centre section of trailing edge really should have been fitted before the bandage Even better, there is enough trailing edge for ailerons, but not the centre. A root about in my balsa box turned up some TE that didn't need too much planing to match the rest The bandage was sanded off the back of the wing, TE added and piece of bandage wrapped over to make the bond strong enough for the wing bolts:

On to the fuselage, again, plenty of good work. The fuselage is straight and tidy. Unfortunately the bottom sheeting had been added without running the control rods. The top sheeting was off so I decided to run the controls before adding the tail surfaces (a little guesswork required). Before starting that I found another job needing redone though:

The rudder is to controlled by pull-pull cables, the servo mounted off centre shouldn't be a problem, but the cable looks like it could be fouled by the wing bolt Moving the servo to the centre will clear the bolts and make setup a little easier, I decided to lower the servo at the same time to keep it clear of the elevator control. A root about in the balsa box again, this time some 1/4" sheet and 1/16" ply came to the rescue:
I can now get the controls run in, add the top sheeting and get the tail surfaces glued in. Before that though I want to get the wing mounted to let me check that everything is properly aligned.
A little over 4 years ago I finished off an Acrowot build for G7, today I'm finishing off another Acrowot for Mongo The whole arrangement that lead to me completing this build is rather complex, I think it may include a trip to Disney World at some point - I'm sure he mentioned something about not taking Mickey

Turns out a good piece of the work has already been undertaken but I decided to check over the progress so far before continuing the build.

The wings had been joined and the wing bandage applied, alignment and dihedral look good, but there was one small error:

I really did, with work on the caravan over the winter the workshop became a dumping ground to make space in the garage I couldn't step into the building cube any more

After converting a Vmar Piper Tomahawk (thanks Pranger) to electric power while balancing it over a moped seat I decided I needed back into the cube. I've got a couple of photos of the conversion, I'll post them soon.

Anyway, after a strong start (Piling things back into the garage ) I came across the inevitable distraction - An "Ohh, I forgot about that" moment, This "forgot about" was a box of wood and drawings that I'd been gifted some time ago by another member (I think there's a pattern to this year's projects )

Well, I seem to recall that part of the deal when I received the kit was that I post the progress on the forum, but not mention the name of the kit or where it came from, so here's the mystery build:

So can you tell what it is yet??

No, ohh well. As per the instructions I started with the tail, the stab was built up over the plan. Kits are great - straight into the build after 20mins of organising die cut parts instead of 20 hrs of cutting out parts from sheet

The elevator was next, I built the first side over the plan then built the second side over the first, glued in the joiner and that was the first components ready for sanding:

So now you've seen the rear of the model, feel free to have a guess, quite a distinctive shape I thought.
I was up in Montrose for a wedding at the weekend but took a plane with me. The little Buzz-B fitted neatly in the boot on top of luggage; great stuff this electric power, no need to worry about fuel leaking onto best clothes!
Unfortunately the wind was much too strong for the wee Buzz-B. I did however visit the Angus Model Flying Club and was made most welcome. A couple of pilots did fly their jet models and put on an impressive display.
This is a comparatively new club with a good site. It is situated on an old airfield and the surface of the grass flying strip resembled a bowling green!
They are having two flyins this year, a scale flyin on 1st July and a general flyin on 18th and 19th August. Have a look at their website

Well my day started early 9.08 am text message from recycler saying there was a burnt out car on the runway and the gates had been smashed in, needless to say initially I was taken in. I text a few of the guys to see if anyone would bite, and guess what I got a couple of takers (you know who u are ). Oh and the one that got away was just not right . But a wee flight report as no one seems to bother anymore. I arrived to find recycler, notright, stu, muppet, cookie monster, swanster, dougie gimp, mode1, Williek and muppets mate. Claude, mac and Stu's heli test pilot turned up later. Most of the guys had a good days flying. None for recycler or stu though well stu did have a wee shot on the buddy box of his new heli, I saw a small electric one flying as well but that couldnt have been him as he is currently involved in a sub comittee discussing the legalities of that . I managed to have a few starts of my hotspot turbine even a short taxi on the grass which was not quite what i was expecting . You cannae just throttle back on these things and expect them to stop instantly. I guess when it is time for the maiden flight it will be full throttle and full commitment There were some pics and videos taken so feel free to post them guys. Also feel free to embelish on the events of the day.
